It is so nice to go to work and not have to worry about Jack’s health, safety or happiness!
“I am writing to let you know what a wonderful center Discovery Point 62 in Lexington Oaks is. My son Jack is 3 and half years old and has been in Discovery Point since early this year. Recently we decided to move Jack to a school that was closer to our home and promised us the same type of curriculum, care and love he was getting at discovery point. It was very sad for us to leave, all the staff were so supportive of us and told us that we should let them know if we ever needed anything in the future. What they didn’t know is, that time would come only 2 weeks later! We had a very bad experience with the next center we were putting Jack in and I ended up calling Discovery Point in tears after picking him up and asking them if they still had a place for Jack. Ms. Shannon was absolutely wonderful on the phone with me. She listened to me, talked to me and made me feel better in minutes!
The owners Sarah and Jane are absolutely great! They always greet us with a smile and their door is always open for us to come in and discuss any concerns we have. I have also had phone conversations as well as email exchanges with both of them and I could not feel more comfortable with leaving Jack in the care of discovery point! Sarah and Jane make themselves available to parents at all times which is so nice of them! My son Jack has 2 different speech disorders, as well as an immune system deficiency and severe food allergies. They are always following up with us asking how he is doing with his speech therapy and his health. They have informed all of the kitchen staff about his food allergies, I bring his own food, so it makes it easier to manage and every one feels that Jack is getting Safe food. Jack’s teachers are also aware or his food allergies and they never want to leave him out. So on special occasions when there is a special treat provided someone always calls me to check if this is something that Jack can have. I truly appreciate the staff always trying their best to include Jack in the treats! It makes him feel really good too!
His teachers that he started with in the 2 year old class, Ms. Barbara and Ms. Sue were absolutely wonderful with him. Ms. Barbara always assured me that he was just like any other 2 year old in the class, with the exception of not talking as much due to his speech disorders. She always took time to talk to me about any concerns I had. I even had some concerns about how Jack’s was interacting with the other children. Ms. Barbara put my mind at ease by telling me he was playing appropriately with all of the children, he did not go off and play by himself. But as a concerned mom, I had to see for myself. So one day after I left the class, they went outside to play and I asked the front desk staff if I could possibly watch Jack for a while interacting with the others outside. I was made to feel totally comfortable in one of the classrooms, where I could see out, but he would not have been able to see me. The interaction that Ms. Barbara had with the kids was wonderful! She had them all running races and kicking a ball, and they were all laughing and having a great time. Ms. Sue was also catching the kids as they went down the slide and chasing them around (as well as making sure they all stayed hydrated!) So I was able to see for myself that Jack interacted with the kids and the teachers very nicely! Ms. Sue made jack feel so comfortable with his speech. She would have little one on one talking sessions with Jack and he would listen so careful to everything she was saying. Ms. Sue was also great at potty training! I don’t think I could have done it without her!
When Jack graduated to the 3 year old class we were thrilled to move up, but sad to leave the wonderful setting and teachers in the 2 year old class. But we had very nice teachers to move up to. Jack loves Ms. Candice and Ms. Alicia. He truly looks forward to each day in their class! When I pick him up in the afternoon, he tells me all about his day with his teachers. To Jack the teachers are not there to “work” they are there to play with him! I feel that the teachers in this center are not here for a job but because they truly love the children and they treat each one as if they are their own.
Ms. Helen and Ms. Shannon are so wonderful at the front desk! They always have a smile for us when we arrive in the morning as well as when I pick him up in the afternoon. They always acknowledge Jack when we arrive and leave as well. They are very pleasant when I call to check on him, but honestly I feel so comfortable with him here that I do not call each day he is there. They answer any questions that I may have. They also go above and beyond each day. If there is something special happening and Jack wasn’t in school, they will always call me to let me know what is happening. For example in the summer time, if Jack didn’t attend on Thursday they would call me Thursday night to let me know water play was the next day and I should bring his bathing suit. They always want the children to feel as included as they can! This is so nice of them!
The Staff at Discovery point Lexington Oaks goes above and beyond each and every day! One example…
Last week jack misplaced his jacket, it was a little chilly out when I picked him up, so each teacher looked for his Jacket in their class. I told Ms. Shannon to call me if it’s found. I told the teachers, it’s not a big deal, these things happen. and I started to head out, Ms. Candice did not give up on the search, she was determined and she found it! She gave it to Jack who gave her a thumbs up and she informed us he put it in another cubby that looked like his old one! We thanked her and got in the car. Jack said to me “I wov (love) Ms. Candice for finding my red jacket!”
Jack asks each night before bed, “Am I going to the hand print school tomorrow?” He loves Discovery Point! When I tell him I have to bring him to speech school, he says , “ok, but can I go to the handprint school the next time?” J
I could go on and on about this school!!
It is so nice to go to work and not have to worry about Jack’s health, safety or happiness! I feel very fortunate that Discovery Point takes Jack’s food allergies so serious (as this is one of the things that did not happen at the school we changed him to and could have been a terrible outcome)
I want to give my sincere thanks to all of the staff at Discovery Point Lexington Oaks, the owners, Sarah and Jane, the directors, Helen and Shannon all of the teachers, assistant teachers, helpers and kitchen staff! They all do a wonderful job each and every day!
Jack is my 3rd child, I am not at all new to Daycare centers, however, this is the best center that any of my children have ever attended!!!”
