Discovery Point Teacher Wins Nationally Recognized Award!

Congratulations to Mrs. Kayla Dinsmore of Discovery Point Cumming, Georgia for being carefully chosen as a recipient of the 2014 Children’s Tylenol® Lokoff Foundation National Childcare Teacher of the Year Award. Hows King, owner of Discovery Point Cumming, is proud to announce that for the third year in a row, his teachers have been recognized with this impressive award due to their dedication in making a difference in children’s lives.

Mrs. Kayla is acknowledged for her outstanding work with children with Down syndrome and children with disabilities. She became interested in learning more about teaching children with Down syndrome after interacting with students with the condition in her class and forming close bonds with their families. During the National Down Syndrome Society’s Buddy Walk®, a fundraiser to raise awareness of Down syndrome, her winning project, “Fun with Fine Motor,” was noticed. Mrs. Kayla created this project to incorporate fine motor skills into learning because of the difficulty students with Down syndrome have with activities involving motor skills. Her goal was to create a fun learning program that works for all students, and she succeeded.

Mrs. Kayla’s favorite part about working at Discovery Point is the kids. She explains, “I learn from them every day – from their hugs to their smiles. I know that I am teaching them something they will remember.”

The Terri Lynne Lokoff Child Care Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving child care and education. It recognizes that quality care and education depend on the expertise of teachers and wants to reward those outstanding teachers, who are so deserving.
