Hows King


Owner since 2008; on site daily and very involved in operations of the center; received a Engineering Degree from Duke University and an MBA from the University of Chicago; he owns another Discovery Point in Cumming. Mr Hows is the past President of the Georgia Childcare Association and is currently serving on the Governor’s Early Education Steering Committee. Married for 30 years and is the father of three.

Stephanie Lawson


With a Degree in Elementary Education, Ms. Stephanie has worn many hats with years of experience in Early Childhood Education as a Teacher, Manager and Curriculum Specialist. Ms. Stephanie has a school age daughter.

Karli Gulledge

Assistant Director

Ms. Karli has been in the child care field since 2003 and holds a degree in Early Childhood Management and Child Development Specialist; Karli is a native Georgian and enjoys working out and playing with her dog Widdles.

Amanda Maziarz

Lead Teacher

(Lead Teacher Preschool Enrichment Program) – Ms. Amanda is a Certified Early Childhood Teacher with over 10 years experience in Early Childhood education. We knew Ms. Amanda would be the perfect fit to lead our Early Literacy and STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts & Math) program in our dedicated Preschool Enrichment Classroom. Ms. Amanda has a elementary school age son.

Angelica Pena

(Beginners Lead Teacher) – Ms. Angelica holds a CDA in preschool education and is the mother of two.

Elaine Childs

(Lead Pre-K Teacher) – Ms. Elaine has a Bachelor’s Degree in Art Education from Brenau University and is state certified educator, certified in Art and Early Childhood Education.

Gabriela Martinez

Lead Teacher

(Achievers Lead Teacher) – Ms. Gabriela has been teaching for almost 30 years in various capacities from Head Start to Pre-K to elementary aged children. She has her CDA credential. She is fluent in Spanish and is the mother to 2 grown children. Mrs. Gabby was recently named a recipient of the Terri Lynn Lokoff National Teacher of the Year, which is an honor given to only 50 preschool teachers nationwide each year.

Haley Hurkmans & Tina Labrador

(Infants Co-Lead Teachers) – Ms. Haley has her Parapro Certificate and is the mother of a young son; Ms. Tina attended Auburn University and is pursuing her CDA in Infant and Toddler care. Ms. Tina is the mother of three.

Jean Plumer

(Afterschool Lead Teacher) – Ms. Jean has previous afterschool experience with children Kindergarten through 5th grade; She holds a Bachelor’s degree and has an art studio in the Buford area.

Krystle Blackmon

(Explorers Lead Teacher) – Ms. Krystle is our Explorers Lead Teacher; She has completed her CDA and has been in the child development industry for over 7 years. Ms. Krystle is also our Classroom Curriculum Manager and is responsible for ensuring.

Tiffany Lewis

(Lead Teacher Achievers A) – Ms. Tiffany recently moved from Cedar Rapids, Iowa with her family. Her career spans early childhood classroom and management experience.

LaTresha Collins

(Toddlers Lead Teacher) – Ms. LaTresha has a Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education and has worked in the childcare industry for over 10 years. She is the mother of 2 children.

Maria Parry

(Lead Accelerated Pre-K Teacher) – Ms. Maria holds a Bachelors Degree in Art from McDaniel College. She has worked in the early childhood setting as a Private Pre-K teacher since 2003. Ms. Maria is incredibly adept at sharing her passion for Early Literacy and STEM with her students.

Wendy Clausen

Early Learners Lead Teacher) – Ms. Wendy brings a wealth of experience as a nurse, preschool educator and member of the U.S. Marine Corp. She is completing her degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education.

Kathleen Scionti & Don Fickle

Staff Bus Drivers

All of our bus drivers are class B CDL certified drivers and are CPR/First Aid certified. All are knowledgeable with regards to bus safety regulations as well as field trips safety. They love our students and frequently help out in other areas of the school.

Manju Patel


Has been a child care center cook and manager for 20 years and has been at Discovery Point Suwanee for almost 15 years; very knowledgeable with regards to USDA food guidelines, and sanitary food service procedures.
